WLHS: Campaign Update 52 Days to go
Yard Signs Matter: Visit the Farmers Market Saturday to get Yard Signs
If you have something to say, send us your Letter to the Editor, and we will publish it. weloveharborsprings@gmail.com
The Brief…
If you only take one thing from today’s newsletter, please visit the tent in Zorn Park on Saturday from 9 am to Noon to pick up yard signs for the Ballot Referendum, Wendy and Tom.
Yard Signs Matter. They show collective moral support for issues and the candidates.
The website for the referendum is live: VoteYES439.org
WLHS is advocating for new leadership who listen to voters and property owners to help guide Harbor Springs through continued growth while protecting its unique character.
The ease of gathering signatures on the referendum reflects the opportunity for better leadership from new and existing elected officials.
Wendy Reeve and Tom Graham are leaders who listen.
The City sent a mailer to some voters, unclear who, outlining what the City staff likes about the zoning, describing the positive attributes without mentioning the real issues like an expanded central business district, 3 story buildings, and large planned unit developments. For the referendum view, see What is Missing
To get the zoning right, voters and property owners deserve the right to have collaborative input with city leaders willing to listen. With more than 400 signatures on the referendum, it is clear for those voters the zoning is incomplete.
Overdevelopment will forever change Harbor Springs.
WLHS has never been against improving the zoning.
Vote Yes to get the zoning right.
Wendy Reeve for City Council
A letter from Wendy Reeve to Harbor Springs
I grew up on a family farm 30 miles south of Lansing, Michigan, as the eldest of four daughters in a third-generation farming family. My parents not only cultivated crops and livestock but also instilled in us a strong work ethic and solid values. From an early age, I learned the importance of hard work, bailing hay alongside mom while dad worked full-time at Consumers Power.
My journey to financial independence began at 14 when I took my first job as a lifeguard. Later, I single-handedly funded my education at Albion College, graduating in 1981. These experiences taught me the value of fiscal responsibility and self-reliance—principles that guide me to this day.
Drawn to the charm of Northern Michigan, I purchased my first home in Harbor Springs in 1992, solidifying my commitment to this community. For over 40 years, I’ve built a successful career in Interior Design, founding my firm, Reeve Cottage Interiors, in 2000.
My personal life has also been fulfilling. In 2008, I married Pierre Bittar, expanding my family to include stepchildren, step-grandchildren, and even a great-grandstep-child. My family has enriched my life and deepened my commitment to our community.
I am running for City Council because I believe Harbor Springs deserves a government that prioritizes responsible governance and balanced decision-making. Recent years have seen too many contentious issues that have divided us. I believe a fresh perspective and a collaborative approach can help bridge these divides and bring our community together.
As a City Council member, I pledge to:
Consider every viewpoint before making decisions
Develop a thorough and thoughtful understanding of local issues
Proactively address community challenges with effective solutions
Bring a fiscally responsible approach to city spending (I hate wasting money!)
Listen to all voters, property owners and community-wide residents
Preserve the unique character and charm of Harbor Springs
Prepare our city for future generations and families
While I am new to politics, I bring a lifetime of practical experience, a strong work ethic, and a deep love for this community. I look forward to meeting with you and hearing your concerns.
I humbly ask for your support and your vote, and I am eager to serve as your voice on the City Council.
Thank you for considering my candidacy.
Sincerely,
Wendy Reeve for City Council
